According to MobClix.com, there are now over 6,000 iPhone games available for
download. Games are by far the most common sort of app on the App Store, beating
out the “Entertainment” category which has only 3,587 entries. In all, games
represent nearly a quarter of the 26,421 iPhone applications available.

Among games, “puzzle” is the most popular genre, with 2,094 titles comprising
17.8 percent of all games. The next most popular category is “arcade” with 1,333
titles comprising 11.3 percent of the total followed by action with 1,284
entries making up 10.9 percent. 4,663, or three-quarters of the games, are paid
apps, while 1,473 are free.
