German phone provider Deutsche Telekom says customers who use Skype’s new iPhone application could have Internet service discontinued for violating their contracts.

Deutsche Telekom AG spokesman Alexander von Schmettow says iPhone contracts from the company’s T-Mobile unit have blocked voice-over-Internet programs, or VoIP, since 2007. Von Schmettow says the iPhone application Skype falls into that category. He added Thursday that the programs could slow down T-Mobile’s network.

Skype lawyer Robert Miller said the application, unveiled worldwide on Tuesday, poses no threat to network performance.

Despite the fact that iPhone OS 3.0 is still a ways from seeing the public light of day, those who are concerned over whether or not they’ll be able to jailbreak Apple’s newest iteration can take heart. A post on the QuickPWN blog says that a Russian hacker has released an “unofficial” jailbreak for the beta software (that is, one not developed by the iPhone Dev Team that maintains the QuickPWN jailbreaking software).

Of course, the iPhone 3.0 software–which is currently in its second beta release–is only available to programmers who are paid members of Apple’s iPhone Developer Program. In related news, Ars Technica reported on Wednesday that the latest version of Apple’s SDK agreement, which developers are required to agree to when they download the iPhone beta OS, appears to prohibit developers from contributing to the jailbreak effort or distributing their applications via any channel other than the App Store.

Not that this is likely to put a stop to jaibreaking, as is clearly…

Research In Motion (RIM) has officially launched the BlackBerry App World mobile store this week, two weeks after opening registrations.

The company did not say how many apps will be available, but what is known is that some are free, and the rest range from $2.99 to $9.99 USD.

The launch is generally seen as a way for RIM to compete with the Apple App Store, which hit half a billion downloads in January
and has over 6000 games available among tens of thousands of apps. Many of Apple’s apps are free or 99 cents, but can go as high as $9.99 USD.

Although it is trying to branch out to non-business users, it is expected the App World will be littered with business related programs more so than games.

The devices that support the App World are the Bold, Storm, Curve and Pearl. You will also need a PayPal account to purchase the apps.
